WINNIPEG - As a sports reporter, earning the respect of your peers is the best reward you can get.
The Winnipeg's Sun's extraordinary Kirk Penton already enjoyed that esteem in spades, but that was further elevated when he was named the Football Reporters of Canada CFL Reporter of the Year at its annual Grey Cup Breakfast Sunday.
"It's pretty cool," the indefatigable Penton said from Regina just after wrapping up a live online chat. "I wasn't expecting it. There's a lot of good reporters out there and it's a great league to cover."
It was no surprise to those who work with him, though.
