MOOSE JAW - Luca Congi was basically given the boot out of Rider Nation, a victim of circumstance and injury that nearly derailed his career.

To his credit, he persevered from knee surgery, maintained a positive attitude and resurfaced in The Hammer.

On Sunday, the 101st Grey Cup might rest on his right leg, a moment any kicker worth his salt would relish.

All week long in the build-up to kickoff, Congi has flown under the radar, a position he enjoys.

“That’s the way I like it,’’ began Congi. “This week isn’t about the return of anybody. It’s about winning a championship. That’s what matters the most.”

At the end of the day, it’s all about winning, the noise merely serving as a way to set the stage for a Ticats-Roughriders matchup.

Home field and Saskatchewan’s rabid fan base will be on the Riders side, but this Ticats group has overcome a lot, including Congi, who was benched this season when his placekicking hit a skid.
