REGINA - On the first day of practice, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats began their Grey Cup week against a backdrop of snow and cold.

“This is like Christmas in July,’’ beamed starting centre Marwan Hage of the conditions. “It (practice) was beautiful, it was efficient, it was on the money.”

If first impressions mean anything, it’s clear the Ticats mean business, their first day of business setting the tone for what will be a week of heightened scrutiny and attention to detail and preparation, the hallmarks of post-season football.

Make no mistake, the Ticats aren’t just happy to be in this position, a first for the franchise since 1999.

It’s a first for Hage, who has embodied Tiger Town’s resiliency and frustration. Andy Fantuz may be the face of the franchise, but no one has faced as much adversity than Hage, no one asked to account for so many lost games and lost opportunities.
