Fraud and plummeting prices plague scalpers

Grey Cup ticket scalpers were the ones being scalped Sunday.

As game time approached, the price of tickets outside McMahon Stadium plummeted.

"They're all going less than face," said scalper Norm, who wouldn't give his last name.

Another seller greeting fans near Crowchild Tr. also said the price had fallen below initial cost.

"It's below cost, if I can just get my cost, I'll be happy," said the man, who was also purchasing ducats to re-sell them.

The situation was in marked contrast to Internet sites earlier in the week where $370 tickets were being offered for up to $1,000.

Don from Winnipeg said he was ripped off for $500 when he paid for tickets he planned to flip, but never received them.

So he was intent on selling another pair he had.

"I got defrauded ... I just want my $500 and I want to go home," said Don.

Randy MacPherson of Hamilton figured he had the scalpers at his mercy, predicting he'd see the game for $100.

"For the last 19 years we've come without tickets," he said.

"They're going to be paying me to take their tickets. We just wait them out."
