EDMONTON - As a former track athlete and football player from sunny southern California, Ed Hervey could be forgiven for not being the biggest fan of the winter Olympics.

But the Edmonton Eskimos general manager finds himself getting more and more into the 2014 Sochi Games after having spent the past decade in his adopted Canadian city.

And as a big weapon of the Eskimos aerial attack for much of that time, it’s not surprising the former receiver takes a liking to winter Olympic events involving speed or jumping.

“I’m from the U.S., our (hockey) team was never really that good, but I do like watching the hockey,” Hervey said. “I do like the bobsled and I do like the downhill skiing, when they do the flips and all that stuff.

“I believe those are the most athletic events where it’s just pure skill — sliding down, doing some sort of pirouette in the sky and then landing on the skis. You could imagine.”
