EDMONTON - Kerry Joseph has taken his last snap as a quarterback with the Edmonton Eskimos.

The team announced Joseph’s release on Thursday.

Eskimos GM Ed Hervey suggested the decision was made mutually.

“Kerry and I had several conversations throughout the week about the future direction of the club,” said Hervey in a release issued by the club. “At that time, he asked for and was granted a release.”

Joseph tweeted on Wednesday that he asked to be released by the club becausee he wants to retire as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders — the team where he enjoyed his greatest CFL success. He also indicated he’d like to pursue a career in coaching.

“I’d like to personaly thank the organization, fans, my teammates and coaches for the opportunity to continue to play the game I love in a great city with great people,” Joseph said. “ Everyone will tryly be missed from the bottom of my heart.”
