EDMONTON - The Edmonton Eskimos are expected to make announcements on their assistant coaching staff as early as this week.

Well, early is one way to describe it, I suppose, considering general manager Ed Hervey called it a priority way back during his search for a new head coach.

“I’m going to hire the head coach with the best staff,” Hervey said on Nov. 4, during a press conference announcing the firing of head coach Kavis Reed.

Twenty-two days later, Chris Jones was hired.

But since then, there hasn’t been a peep from the Eskimos as to any assistants.

Not an official one, anyway.

One interpretation of Hervey’s statement is the Eskimos were looking for someone who already had agreements — informal ones, at least — in place with assistant coaches and that the staff was pretty much predetermined.
