EDMONTON - The Ottawa Rouge et Noir come into the league with a better offensive line than the Edmonton Eskimos and a better quarterback combination than the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
So there’s that.
With just about each pick in the expansion draft Monday, you could hear an “ouch” from somewhere around the CFL. There were few complete cries of agony, although when your correspondent asked Eskimos GM Ed Hervey if he went “Whew!” at any point to have somebody NOT picked, he admitted with a big grin that, yes, yes he did.
“Yes, but I won’t give that information out.”
At the end of the day you’d have to say the overall goal of bringing Ottawa back into the league was a success.
The CFL can’t afford to go back to being a nine-team league and have Ottawa flail and fail again.
“When you’re talking about improving the league, there have to be sacrifices and each team has made those,” said Hervey.
