Midway through the fourth quarter of Friday’s game, Fred Stamps stretched out for a pass in the end zone.

The touchdown fireworks went off as the ball ricocheted harmlessly into the northwest corner of Commonwealth Stadium.

That was the last image Edmonton Eskimo fans would have of Stamps on home field this season.

Stamps landed hard on his hip and stood on the sidelines as the clock wound down. Afterwards, he put on a brave face, saying he’d be OK to go next week.

It would be a shame if he couldn’t.

In a year when he’s played with a banged-up body, Stamps is headed for a bang-up year.

He’s already hauled in a personal best 11 TD passes.

Friday’s 132-yard production, his 28th 100-yard game of his career and sixth of the year, put him at 1,259 yards on the season, just 143 yards short of his career season high.
