EDMONTON - At 10 a.m., the Edmonton Eskimos released their 46-man roster and depth chart for Saturday’s Hall of Fame Game against the Montreal Alouettes.

Jonathan Crompton was listed as the starting quarterback. Mike Reilly as his backup. And Kerry Joseph as No. 3.

At 10:35 a.m., the media was informed that Reilly would not be made available after practice due to an appointment.

At 11:45 coach Kavis Reed, in his pre-game press conference, said “it has not been decided” if Reilly will be his starting quarterback.

At 2:20 p.m. the team released a statement announcing Reilly had been medically cleared to play but that “Reilly’s status for the game has yet to be determined.”

At 3:35 p.m. media relations director Rose Phillip called to inform there would be no further communication on the subject until before game time, that telephone interview requests with the quarterback and anybody else in the organization would not be granted.

It still left open the opportunity for the Eskimos to do the right thing — to shut their starting quarterback down for the game as extra precaution.
