EDMONTON - Last week, Edmonton Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed closed his locker-room doors to the media to help quiet the noise surrounding the team.

This week, the room was reopened, but with some noticeable absences, as Reed’s assistant coaches have been given a gag order.

One, in fact, was even interrupted mid-interview Wednesday morning with the message that all coaching questions will be fielded directly by Reed.

For this week, at least.

The decision comes on the heels of criticism last week from general manager Ed Hervey, as well as the ensuing responses from offensive co-ordinator Doug Sams and defensive co-ordinator Greg Marshall.

“Our coaches want to focus as keenly as possible on the Xs and Os,” Reed said in a scrum of reporters Wednesday. “My job in those decisions is to make certain their focus is absolutely on that. A lot of circumstances that we’re working with this week in terms of schematic changes, I need them absolutely focused on that.
