EDMONTON - Had the tables been turned, Edmonton Eskimos general manager Ed Hervey has a pretty good idea of what he’d have done in Simeon Rottier’s situation.

And of what he’d have said, for that matter.

“As far as negativity is concerned, I mean, he would have had every right to say what he wanted to say,” said Hervey, a former CFL receiver with a personality that can get fiery, like when he publicly singled out his right guard last week for poor performance. “I’m pretty sure if I was a player in his position, knowing me and my history, I would have said something.

“I know it.”

It’s the kind of criticism that Hervey said forces a player to do one of two things:

“You rise to the top and rise to the challenge, or you fold up and you go home,” Hervey said. “I don’t think we have a team full of guys that are willing to fold up and go home.”
