EDMONTON - Rookie linebacker Eric Samuels has made an instant impact with the Edmonton Eskimos.

In the first third of the season, Samuels has produced on special teams, one area that head coach Kavis Reed has no gripe about.

Samuels has been the tip of the spear with a team-leading nine special teams tackles and his role is about to expand against Toronto.

“Things are going pretty good,” said Samuels, a 22-year-old out of Vanderbilt. “I’m just playing within the schemes of the special teams, giving it all every play and making plays.”

Samuels’s contribution has been one of the reasons the Eskimos cover teams are among the league’s stingiest.
