It seems J.C. Sherritt has some competition this year.
The Edmonton Eskimos middle linebacker made a name for himself in his sophomore CFL season by resetting the bar with a record 130 tackles on the way to being named the CFL’s most outstanding defender in 2012.
But there is a new No. 1 emerging out of the gates this year — one that isn’t as well known.
Fellow linebacker Damaso Munoz has now surpassed Sherritt for the team lead after after an eight-tackle outing and a forced fumble last week against the Montreal Alouettes.
That makes 34 on the season for Munoz, whose is tied for second overall, five back of Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox, and on pace for an impressive 120-tackle year — which has only been accomplished four times previously, including Sherritt’s.
