The vault is still sealed tight on the answer to the golden question this week of who will start at quarterback for the Edmonton Eskimos in Friday’s preseason-opener.

Will it be Matt Nichols, who had been groomed as the next big thing under Ricky Ray for a season-and-a-half before starting his first two CFL games with the Eskimos in 2012?

Or will it be Mike Reilly, the quarterback that former Eskimos head scout Ed Hervey specifically headhunted from the B.C. Lions prior to free agency in his first move as general manager?

“You know, I have no idea honestly,” Reilly said. “As far as I know, I’m preparing to play, but I do that every week. I haven’t been told anything otherwise. I always go to be the night before prepared to start the next game.

“You never know when your chance is going to come. It may come this week, it may not. But I feel very well prepared and I’m ready to go if they call my number.”
