Edmonton Eskimos slotback Fred Stamps signs one-year extension

Fred Stamps would like nothing better than to finish his career as a member of the Edmonton Eskimos.

So on Tuesday, the team’s leading receiver for the past four seasons signed a one-year extension with the CFL club.

Stamps has been a perennial all-star and Eskimos nominee for most outstanding player.

“This is something I wanted to do — to help the club out and to help me out personally,” said Stamps, who agreed to forego a deserved raise to help the team keep and attract quality players.

“I didn’t have to give up anything. We did a few things to help out the club, to help keep other players around. If you keep the same core group of guys around, we can win. This deal is awesome for both sides.

“It was an easy decision. I love Edmonton, I love the fans and I love being here. It’s like my second home. It’s where I want to finish my career.”


Stamps, 31, still has many good seasons ahead of him but decided against signing a long-term deal.
