Esks Davis not happy with 13 tackles
By GERRY MODDEJONGE, QMI Agency

EDMONTON - Thirteen proved to be an unlucky number for Rod Davis on Friday.

While it appeared the Edmonton Eskimos linebacker was statistically productive in the tackling department during a 34-21 loss to the Montreal Alouettes, it’s not something he’s exactly proud of.

“They were terrible tackles,” Davis said. “If you had 13 tackles for a loss that would be something different, but they were 13 tackles with guys getting first downs.

“So those tackles mean nothing. Those were really gimme-type tackles.”

Davis’s 13 stops weren’t enough to keep Alouettes running back Brandon Whitaker from putting together his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season, proving tackling is not always about quantity.

“The total is kind of misleading,” Davis said. “It’s one of those stats where the offence goes in at the end of the half and just runs the ball the last few plays on the defence a lot.

“It’s that type of stat.”
