While they have a long way to go before even thinking about a home playoff game, the Edmonton Eskimos are getting a head start on playoff simulation against the B.C. Lions on Friday.

Then, after that, football will be the farthest thing from their minds as they enjoy their bye week.

But that will have to wait until after the final whistle and not a moment earlier.

“I told the coaches we’re going to approach this like it’s a one-game season. It’s our Grey Cup,” said head coach Kavis Reed. “That’s the way we’re approaching this game.”

That’s because a win would get the Eskimos back in the hunt for first place, while a loss would be their third in a row.

“Not to put too much on the weight of this game, but this is a game where I feel it’s pivotal to us in terms of the season, how we respond to an adverse situation,” Reed said. “It’s very hard to find a situation where we’re going to have to fight against the adversity that we’re going to fight against in terms of playing on Friday night, so I want to know what this team is made of.”
