EDMONTON - Eric Ward will go down as one of the most-winning quarterbacks in Colonial Athletic Association history. But that was college and this is the pros.

The University of Richmond product joins the Edmonton Eskimos in training camp Tuesday with an impressive resume that includes two conference championships and the 2008 national title.

“I loved my time there. We did pretty good, won a national championship there,” said the six-foot-two, 215-pound pivot who lives in Atlanta, Ga. “I’m pretty thrilled about it. It was an exciting season. We started out pretty slow and were able to turn around and win a championship.”

But his success didn’t translate to the NFL. Not yet, anyway.

“After I went through college, I went to OTAs (organized team activities) with the Atlanta Falcons. I got cut shortly after the OTAs and was just working out, waiting on a phone call,” said Ward, whom the Eskimos had their eye on since the end of last season. “I’m excited for this opportunity.”
