Edmonton Eskimos defensive back/linebacker T.J. Hill is looking at prolonging his stay with the team.

The club announced Tuesday Hill’s contract has been extended through the 2012 CFL season.

“While the focus was often on others last year, TJ quietly ranked fourth in the league in total tackles,” said Eskimos GM Eric Tillman. “TJ has earned the highest level of respect by being a daily example for our younger guys by showing them what it takes to be a true professional through his work ethic and practice habits.”

Edmonton’s nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2011, Hill led all Esks with 91 defensive tackles. He is entering his fifth CFL season, the last two with Edmonton.

The Eskimos also announced the release of running back Brad Lester. Signed as a free agent in August, Lester appeared in two games last season, rushing for 96 yards on 16 carries.
