He is the Eskimos’ biggest free-agent signing of the off-season, if for nothing more than size alone.

All six-foot-seven, 298 pounds of Brian Ramsay will be clad in green and gold as the offensive lineman comes to Edmonton from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The hulking lineman signed for one year plus an option that could take him through 2012.

“Even though we were happy with the progress of our offensive line late last season, we think that Brian has a lot of value and brings great versatility to our mix based on his versatility to play all three positions,” said Eskimos general manager Eric Tillman. “And we just like him as a football player. Brian brings a lot of things to the table.”

The fifth-year offensive lineman spent last season as the sixth man on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Previously, the New Mexico product spent three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts after being drafted in the fifth round (39th overall) in 2006. Ramsay has played in 64 games, making 33 starts in four seasons.

The Victoria, B.C., native will have an opportunity to compete at both guard and tackle, pushing returning linemen Patrick Kabongo and Greg Wojt on the right side.
