Peach played like a stone.

For the second straight week, Eskimos defensive lineman Greg Peach proved to be rock-solid in his team’s win.

Peach returned off the nine-game injured list in the Esks win over the Argos last week and made an immediate impact.

He got a forced fumble, blocked a convert and recorded a sack.

Sunday afternoon at Commonwealth, Peach continued to make up for lost time.

After sacking Hamilton quarterback Kevin Glenn twice, Peach forced another fumble when he stripped the ball from DeAndra Cobb early in the fourth quarter.

“I was fortunate,” said Peach. “I try to do the same things every game and that’s to be consistent and make plays. I was fortunate enough to make some (Sunday).”

The forced fumble set up the go-ahead field goal in the Esks’ two-point win.

“That running back (Cobb) kinda juked me,” said Peach. “He got me. Basically, I had to make up for it. I saw the ball there and I said I’m just goin’ for it. I tomahawked it.”

There were nine weeks of frustration to make up for as Peach sat on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

“When you’re on the nine-week, you’re just itchin’ to get out there,” said Peach. “I know I have a short season this year and I’m just trying to make the best of it and trying to help the team win games in this stretch.”

If anyone doubted how valuable Peach is with his high-pressure, in-your-face style, all they’d have to do it look at how much more effective the defensive unit has become since his return.

“Our whole unit, our whole D line has really come together,” said Peach. “We’ve figure out what it takes to get there. You’ve seen that in the last two games and I think that’s really helped in our last two wins.”

If the Esks had an energy crisis on the D line, Peach has injected some motion lotion.

“He’s just got a lot of energy right now,” said Esks head coach Richie Hall. “He’s that boost that we need, especially defensively and up front.

“He’s taken what he learned last year and what he’s learned this year while not playing and you see the end result. Each week, he just gets better and better.”

Peach? He’s just keen to be back in the lineup.
