Known for his focus between the white lines of the gridiron, Maurice Lloyd provided a rare glimpse into his personal life Thursday.

The Edmonton Eskimos middle linebacker was wearing Rosary beads in the locker- room following a team walkthrough at Commonwealth Stadium.

While the Eskimos could use any help they can get in the standings and with the upcoming game against a strong Calgary opponent, Lloyd has plenty of other motivation to keep the faith.

"Especially with all the things going on at home and my situation, I have been doing a lot of praying. Family situations," said Lloyd. "But my mind right now is on Edmonton Eskimos versus Calgary Stampeders."

On his personal time, Lloyd's mind is focused on family.

"My cousin just got a pacemaker, he's 33 years old. My father's a little ill, there's a lot of stress back home," Lloyd said. "But I always say every day I wake up: 'God brings me to it; he'll bring me through it.' They expect me to come out here and play football and stay excited and worry about home when I get back.

"There's a lot of things bigger than football, but you know, to be a man you have to go through a lot of adversity to become stronger. Every year I go through this, so I don't do nothing but look at it as a pushing stone to make me go harder and make me focus harder."

TRISTAN 'N' TURNING:

Eskimos top return man Tristan Jones has been activated from the nine-game injured list in time for Friday's game.

"I'm just excited, man. I'm going to try to bring a positive spark to this team," said Jackson, the Eskimos 2009 nominee as Special Teams Player of the Year.

His 2010 season was cut in half after being shelved for nine weeks on June 25 with a shoulder injury.

"It's been hard but everything happens for a reason, is how I look at it," said Jackson, who returned a 75-yard punt for a touchdown in 2009. "I've been trying to stay focused, get some reps with the other guys at returning, watching a little film, being in the weight room and knowing when my time comes I'll just be ready.

"The guys up front, they're going to do a great job blocking, I know. I mean, they have all year. If I see the hole, I'll hit it like I'm supposed to and get a big return. Hopefully score a couple times."
