EDMONTON - The Edmonton Eskimos might be looking at starting the season with three consecutive losses, but according to head coach Richie Hall, that’s no reason to panic.

“No,” said Hall. “There’s still 15 more games to play and you still control your own destiny to some degree because you still play your opponents a certain amount of times.

“The key thing for me, right now, is not only whether you win or lose, but how you end up doing it. We lost the first week because we had a lack of energy. How we lost the second week, there was energy and consistency there, now we just have to be able to finish.

“We played well enough to win, but we didn’t win and we have to find a way to win.”

The Eskimos head into Saskatchewan on Saturday to take on a Roughriders team that has gotten off to a 2-0 start.

“Going into this game, it’s important that you get better each week, that you play well each week,” Hall said. “I believe that if you improve and you’re consistent, then the wins will take care of themselves.”

Search for new ’backer

With the injury to Mark Restelli on Sunday, the Eskimos are in the market for another linebacker. Restelli injured his knee in the loss to the Alouettes and will be out for an extended period of time. On Wednesday, he was put on the nine-game injured list.

“I think when you look at us right now, we only have four linebackers,” Hall said. “We definitely want to bring someone in, because of our depth situation.

“If you lose another one, then what happens? We’re only Week 2 into the season, and Restelli is going to be out for more than just one week, so we have to look at bringing another one in.”

The Eskimos did sign import defensive end Larry Birdine to a practice roster agreement on Wednesday. The Oklahoma native was released at training camp.

The team also announced they moved import defensive back Roderick Williams and long snapper Neil Puffer to the active roster and placed safety Corbin Sharun on the practice roster.
