The Edmonton Eskimos got a defensive boost Friday when the club announced the signing of five-year NFLer Kenneth Pettway.

The Texas defensive back has spent the past five years with three different NFL teams.

Originally selected by the Houston Texans in the seventh round (227th overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft, Pettway has appeared in a total of 25 games over the five seasons.

Fourteen of those were with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006 and 2007 and eight with the Green Bay Packers in 2008.

A graduate of Grambling State University, Pettway has a career total of 18 tackles, three quarterback sacks and one forced fumble.

"Kenny's past experiences in pro football will be a real asset to our team," Esks assistant GM Paul Jones said in a release.

"He's a very good pass rusher and his quickness and speed allow him to get up the field to put pressure on the QB.

"His positive attitude and work ethic will be beneficial to the Eskimos, and we are excited to have him in camp."
