Richie Hall applied for the vacant Edmonton Eskimos head-coaching job in 2004, when Danny Maciocia was given the job.

On Wednesday, Hall was back for Round 2 as he is one of the nine candidates that Maciocia is looking at to take over the sidelines of the Eskimos.

"I thought it went OK. I felt good about it, but the bottom line is how Danny feels about and hopefully I created some interest," Hall said yesterday.

"For me, it was very different. The previous time, my portion of the interview was over the phone. It was an introduction with Rick (LeLacheur) and Mr. (Hugh) Campbell.

"This was, being in person the interview was much longer in terms of the time frame. Danny (Maciocia) and I spent basically the whole afternoon with one another getting to know one another."

While the CFL has gone through a cycle of coaches around the league, Hall has been a mainstay with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He's been part of the coaching staff for 14 years, eight of them as the Riders defensive co-ordinator.

He's still under contract by the Riders, but Saskatchewan gave him permission to speak to the Eskimos about the job.

"That door with the Saskatchewan Roughriders will always be open," said Hall.

"I enjoy what I do, but I would love a chance to be a head coach in this league and this is an opportunity to take another challenge.

"I feel blessed, I have been part of this league as a coach. I have yet to take that step in my career, but there is no frustration because I haven't been a head coach yet, none at all."

Hall, who played nine seasons in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan, is expected to hear in the next week on any further progress Maciocia has made with his decision.

"He's doing a very through job, and he's got a lot of great candidates. It's like a training camp out there. You bring a bunch of guys out there, and you whittle it down to a certain number," said Hall.

"All I can do is sit back and wait, it's out of my control."
