On the first day in his new job, Danny Maciocia has secured a key piece of his offensive line.

The Edmonton Eskimos new general manager has agreed to terms with centre John Comiskey on a three-year deal, a source has told Sun Media.

Comiskey was about to be a free agent in February, but will return to the Green and Gold for a second year.

Named Edmonton's outstanding offensive lineman this season, Comiskey gave up a team-low 2.5 sacks in the regular season.

Speculation suggests Comiskey's signing will mean Dan Comiskey will also return for another season at left guard.

While the Eskimos spent yesterday announcing Maciocia is strictly the new GM and director of football operations, watch for the club to announce John Comiskey's signing soon.

QUICK HITS: MACIOCIA MADE IT VERY CLEAR YESTERDAY HE WILL SPEND THE OFF-SEASON HUNTING FOR PLAYERS TO IMPROVE THE RUNNING GAME AND THE DEFENCE.

There continue to be rumblings within the organization that tailback Jesse Lumsden will sign a bonus-laden contract when the free-agent period starts.

"I would think we would need another guy to come off the edge," continued Maciocia on his desire to find a starting defensive end. "That would be another situation we need to upgrade.

"We don't know what is going to happen with Shannon Garrett, so we need a SAM linebacker that can play in the box and defend the run and still be able to cover (a receiver)."

FINISH LINES: LINEBACKERS COACH DAN KEPLEY HAS NO ASPIRATIONS OF APPLYING TO BE THE NEXT ESKIMOS HEAD COACH.

"I am a simpleton," quipped Kepley." "My world is black and white. I do not see grey. I am not the most politically correct person. Quite honestly if I am blessed enough to come back and try to coach these linebackers again, I like to do one thing and one thing very, very well."
