Calvin McCarty continues to get high praise from Danny Maciocia.
One week after being complimented for having great receiving hands, McCarty received high praise yesterday for being a fourth-round draft pick last year.
"When you take a look at that draft from last year, he was a fourth-round pick. He should have probably been the first pick overall," said Maciocia, the Esks' head coach.
"He is playing well. And he is one of the guys that we felt we needed to get in.
"He can catch the ball coming out of the backfield. He can run with it. And I think he is going to get better as we go along here.
"But he is going to make a few mistakes. He is still young and learning."
In his second season with the Green and Gold, McCarty is receiving some starting tailback duty because the club needs to start seven non-imports.
After a solid Week 2 performance - four receptions for 47 yards and two rushing carries for 31 yards - McCarty will likely get more work in tomorrow's game against the visiting Toronto Argos (8 p.m., Commonwealth Stadium, CHED).
For the record, receiver Chris Bauman was taken first overall last year by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
"That is a nice compliment. But I am glad I am here," said McCarty, the 27th overall selection in that draft class.
