Veteran linemen get a night off

A good portion of the starting defensive line and linebacking core for the Edmonton Eskimos during the coming regular season will miss tonight's first pre-season game in Calgary.

Fred Perry, Dario Romero and Adam Braidwood will not play this evening on the D-line, while linebacker Siddeeq Shabazz and Shannon Garrett will also be scratched.

Those guys have jobs when the regular-season starts June 28; the coaching staff doesn't need to see them tonight.

Instead, there needs to be evaluation of the players vying for the remaining defensive end job.

"We need to see guys like (Tyler) Clutts (DE), (Montez) Murphy (DE), (Brandon) Guillory (DE) and Michael-Jean Louis," said Edmonton head coach Danny Maciocia.

On offence, Ricky Ray and Jason Tucker will not play, with Kamau Peterson also probable scratches.

Can Ricky Ray solve the Toronto Argonauts' quarterback woes in 2012?
  Yes
  No
