Sean Fleming hasn't gone AWOL.

The veteran Eskimo kicker/punter is expected to miss every practice in Edmonton this week - but he has permission to be gone.

Fleming will meet the team in Montreal this weekend for Sunday's game after taking a course in Ottawa this week related to his job with Pricewaterhousecoopers.

"Obviously I would love to have him here. I feel better when he is here. But we will get through it," said special teams coach Scott Squires.

The absence from practice comes on the heels of Fleming missing a 21-yard field goal last week against Montreal.

Fleming also missed two field goals - both beyond 40 yards - against Calgary in a three-point loss on Sept. 7.

But the 16-year veteran is holding true to his professional manner by working on his kicking on the road.

"He's kicking as we're speaking," said Edmonton head coach Danny Maciocia yesterday afternoon.

Fleming had arranged for practice sessions at the University of Ottawa for yesterday and today.

Rookie Warren Kean - who is on the practice roster - is handling Eskimo kicking/punting chores for the remaining three Edmonton-based practices before the team heads east on Friday.

SHORT YARDAGE: The tuque crew was a star-studded crew at Eskimo practice yesterday. On a chilly morning, the Eskimos who weren't practising for medical/injury reasons were wearing tuques.

Jason Tucker, Tyler Ebell, A.J. Gass, Kenny Hollis and Chuck Alston were sporting the latest in Eskimo winter headwear. Stanford Samuels and Adam Braidwood also missed portions of practice.

None of the injuries seem serious, and Tucker plans to practise today.

"We got a little more time so I can rest (the knee) a bit," said Tucker, who had 217 receiving yards and a touchdown last Friday.

"We looked at the schedule and we knew we had nine days between the next game."
