Welcome to the spotlight - T.J. Acree.

With all-star receiver Jason Tucker having a scope on his nagging injured knee yesterday morning, the Edmonton Eskimos are likely going to be without their top slotback until Labour Day.

So, that makes Acree the feature receiver.

"We made a couple of moves during training camp that we felt we needed to make because we had to find a place for him," said Edmonton head coach Danny Maciocia. "And he hasn't disappointed."

Playing with a stress fracture on one foot, the first-year Eskimo was outstanding last weekend against Calgary.

He made six grabs for 84 yards while also throwing a key block to help his quarterback on one play and then running over the WILL-linebacker on another screen play.

Hobbling around in a walking cast on his injured left foot yesterday, Acree missed yet another practice but is expected to play Saturday against Hamilton.

LOW BLOW:

Linebacker Shannon Garrett wasn't at practice yesterday and isn't expected to play Saturday after taking an accidental kick to the private area below the belt in last weekend's tilt.

"Shannon Garrett is bad," said Maciocia on the state of his injury. "He is doubtful for this one.

"I am hoping it is just a game (he misses)."

Ray Perryman is apparently healthy enough to return to the linebacking core to help fill Garrett's massive void.

Perryman missed the last game with a shoulder injury and still had the shoulder heavily iced after practice.

SECOND CHANCE:

Back-up quarterback Stefan LeFors is still the Edmonton Eskimos' go-to-guy on goal-line sneaks, even though the club couldn't punch it in at the most critical time in last Saturday's loss to Calgary.

"It is just like if you do a bad interview," said Maciocia to a TV reporter.

"And you are still doing another one (today).

"That is how I approach it.

"It is like telling Ricky (Ray): 'Don't throw another interception because I am going to pull you out.'

"Ricky could have been under centre (on Saturday) and we wouldn't have scored. I can tell you that right now.

"What I need to do is go back and evaluate why we didn't get that push."

SHORT HIT:

How rare is this? The Eskimos have signed DB Lenny Williams and released DB Ricky Williams.

Two official transactions on the same day involving players with the same last name - but they are not relatives.

Lenny Williams spent time with the Dallas Cowboys.

Ricky Williams has been released for salary cap reasons. He didn't play a regular-season game for Edmonton.

Lenny Williams is on the Esks' practice roster. He likely won't play this week.
