A hairy, scary feeling

Who knew an in-grown hair would cause this much trouble?

Edmonton Eskimo receiver Pat Woodcock missed last night's regular-season opener because of a problem that started after he pulled a pesky in-grown hair in his right foot.

"I had an in-grown hair - somehow some bacteria got in there and it got infected," said Woodcock.

"After it (the hair) got pulled - like overnight - the foot swelled up and it started to turn red and all that stuff."

That was the day of the Eskimos' first pre-season game - June 15 - in Calgary.

Woodcock has barely done anything since. He missed both pre-season games on top of it.

"I don't even have words for it," continued Woodcock on the bizarre situation.

"I really have no explanation for how it happened."

But on the bright side, he has now received clearance through blood tests from doctors to resume practicing next week - providing nothing else goes wrong in the meantime.
