Mum is the official word from the Edmonton Eskimos on the starting quarterback for tonight's pre-season game against the Calgary Stampeders.

But rumblings suggest Stefan LeFors will get the start in his first ever tilt for the Green and Gold. Regardless, this is the main audition for LeFors and Steven Jyles in the battle to be Ricky Ray's backup.

"Practice is obviously important, but we know we are not going to get hit," said LeFors. "You are kind of taking things maybe a little bit slower (in practice).

"(Tonight) when it is live action and you are between the white lines and there are no coaches out there behind you, you know you are going to get hit... you just have to react to it.

"Coaches will see how you perform in pressure situations. I am looking forward to it."

In his second year with the Esks, Jyles has looked more comfortable this week at training camp, the ball is no longer sailing high on receivers.

"I just have to carry it over to the ball game," said Jyles.

All three quarterbacks will play tonight, but it's obvious Ray won't finish the game as Maciocia pointed out yesterday that even if his club needs a last-minute drive to win the game, Ray will not be coming off the bench.

This would be LeFors' first game action since last September when he was involved with the Carolina Panthers of the NFL.

SPREAD THE WEALTH

Slotback Geroy Simon doesn't know if he can repeat last year's performance with the B.C. Lions. To be honest, he isn't sure if he wants to.

When you're having big numbers like that, you're going to wear down fast," Simon, the CFL's most valuable player last season, said yesterday during a break at Lions' training camp.

"I don't know if that is necessarily healthy for myself or the team.

"There's a number I'd like to hit every year. If other guys can step up and I don't have to catch as many balls and we can be just as successful, that's great for me."
