Remember the name Mike Murphy.

Not a household name by any stretch of the imagination at Eskimo training camp, the rookie defensive end could very well stick with the team because of his versatility.

While Taylor Inglis is the obvious front-runner to be the club's long snapper, Murphy is currently auditioning to be the backup.

Called by special teams coach Scott Squires two months ago and informed the team needed another long snapper, Murphy quietly worked on the skill before showing up.

"I was a little surprised about that call because I hadn't long snapped in college at all," said the 23-year-old import. "I did a little in high school."

Murphy practised snapping to a friend in a backyard at home and also snapped the ball against the wall.

So far, he seems to be holding his own with the punt team during the early morning drills at camp.
