Ricky Williams doesn't smoke pot.

Ricky Williams doesn't act like a stuck-up snob in media scrums.

Ricky Williams hasn't been booted out of the NFL.

No, the ultra-famous Ricky Williams hasn't suddenly changed his stripes.

The Ricky Williams in this story is trying out for the Edmonton Eskimos.

The 23-year-old import is trying to crack the roster as a rookie defensive back or returner.

It only took a few days of rookie camp before he got questioned about sharing a name with a celebrity.

"I'd rather my name be Ricky Williams than James Brown," he cracked at the conclusion of rookie camp yesterday.

ROOKIE RAMBLINGS: It appeared nobody took more hits than receiver Ryan Kelly in rookie camp.

But nobody can knock his attitude as he tries to adjust from being at a small U.S. school to pro football.

"To a certain extent I feel for him because we are having lunch and the play book is open," said Eskimos head coach Danny Maciocia.

"Finishes lunch, walks out, sits by the tennis courts and the book is open.

"You go by his locker, the book is open.

"He probably sleeps with the book open, too.

"He is taking some hits and bouncing back up and gets back in the huddle.

"There is no quit in that kid.

"But the material is hitting him 100 miles an hour.

"Overall, he is battling and you have to respect that."

CAMP CHATTER: Guest coach Rod Rust is going home to New Jersey after working on the fundamentals of tackling with the rookies.

"Originally we had thought about having him here for eight or nine (days), but he has a few things going on back home, which is understandable," said Maciocia.

"He gave us three great days on drills."
