From the Canadian Football League's northern outpost, Danny Maciocia is practically beaming over the hiring of Jim Daley.

"I'm telling you, if you look across the league, you are not going to get anybody who has got one bad thing to say about Jim Daley," said the Edmonton Eskimos' head coach.

"I have the utmost respect for (him)."

A former head coach, Daley is now a senior adviser for the league, overseeing the procedures relating to the performance evaluation of referees.

"There's going to be a healthy exchange between him and the officiating crew," continued Maciocia.

"Officials can get a perspective of what a coach sees and what he thinks.

"And for us (as existing coaches), any dialogue we have with him is from one colleague to another.

"If we're always working on making this a better game, then collectively the coaches and officials have to come together and work in unison to get there."

FINISH LINES: Maciocia hopes to finalize his coaching staff by the end of the month.
