Ray won't call plays

Ricky Ray is evolving this year, becoming more of a leader with the Edmonton Eskimos.

But don't expect him to become the lead man in the play-calling department.

Although head coach Danny Maciocia believes Ray definitely has the maturity and ability to call his own offensive plays, they will continue to come from the bench.

"I have never done it before, for one thing," admitted Ray, who doesn't want the job.

"And No. 2, rather than thinking out there (for a play to call), I would rather just get the play and go with it."

So while Maciocia will continue to call the offensive shots down the stretch, he did spend a moment yesterday joking about what it would be like if Ray did call the plays.

"Every day at about 12:45 p.m. he will stand here (during the coach's media conference) and you can ask him what is wrong with the running game, the passing game and how come (Jason) Tucker got two balls for 12 yards," cracked Maciocia.
