Brady remains doubtful for rematch

It appears Nik Lewis is going to be wrong.

About an hour after the Calgary Stampeders hammered the Eskimos on Monday, Lewis predicted: "I think we will see Donny Brady on Friday."

The Stamp slotback believed Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia would pull rookie defensive back Jonte Buhl off the roster for Friday's game in favour of Brady.

"I ate (Buhl) up a couple of times," continued Lewis, giving his review of Monday's tilt.

"And I know Cope (Jeremaine Copeland) did as well.

"I am not saying (Buhl) is a bad player, but he's still a rookie and I don't think he can match our intensity."

But it's doubtful Brady -- who was brought back by the Esks last week -- will be activated this week.

"He was OK at practice last week," said Maciocia, "but Donny has got a lot of work (ahead) and this is a short week."

Brady believes he's ready to play, even though he hasn't been involved in game action since June.

But if he doesn't get the call from the coaches, he just hopes Buhl learns from his mistakes from Labour Day.

"Jonte has to learn how to defend," remarked Brady, who is a very straight shooter.

"He has to defend better.

"Jonte is a great ball player, he just has to learn from what he did (on the field) and come out there and correct it."

Copeland did beat Buhl for a highlight-reel 57-yard reception in the second quarter, stiff-arming the rookie and running away.

Buhl also took a selfish unnecessary roughness penalty.

But on the flip side, he nearly picked off a pass intended for Lewis at the south end of the field and then broke up a TD pass intended for Lewis at the north end of the field in the second quarter.

"I think I did OK," said Buhl.

FINISH LINES: Understandably frustrated over his team's continual lack of discipline, Maciocia keeps collecting money from his players for stupid penalties.

"It seems some people don't have a problem handing over their money," said the coach, who has a fine system in place for players taking undisciplined penalties.

"At some point in time it will register; I just hope that it isn't too late. It's just got to stop."
