The Edmonton Eskimos aren't expecting Rashad Jeanty to return this year.

Although plenty can change before the Cincinnati Bengals have to declare their final roster when the exhibition season ends, the former Eskimos DE is turning heads at strong side linebacker.

"He is playing very well and will likely make the (Bengals)," said Eskimos president Rick LeLacheur, relaying the word of an Edmonton scout who visited Cincinnati's training camp.

Jeanty escaped to the Bengals during the off-season by using the option-year clause in his Eskimos contract. With eight sacks in just 14 games last year for the Green and Gold, Jeanty would be welcomed back to the fold this year with open arms if the NFL's AFC North champions release him.

"But for (Jeanty), it's great news (out of Cincinnati), so we're happy for him," added LeLacheur.

With a hamstring injury to David Pollack - the No. 1 SAM LB on the depth chart - and an earlier shoulder problem to backup Hannibal Navies, Jeanty is getting a shot. His next major step will come Sunday on national TV in a pre-season game against the Redskins.
