Malcolm in the middle

Malcolm Frank is doubtful for Friday's game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, which has caused a three-way shuffle in the secondary.

The Eskimo cornerback is on the sidelines with a right ankle injury.

"The good news is it ain't broken," said Frank of his right ankle. "If I had to play (today), I wouldn't play, but we play Friday - so we will see how much the swelling goes down."

But head coach Danny Maciocia is listing the veteran as doubtful.

To adjust to that problem, Keyuo Craver practised at cornerback yesterday, with former safety Jonte Buhl moving to Craver's former halfback spot. Non-import J.R. LaRose took reps as the first-string safety.

LaRose - who has never started a regular-season game at safety - is the only non-import safety option at the moment because veterans Will Loftus and Kelly Wiltshire emerged from last Friday's game with hamstring injuries.

"I don't know if they are going to make it through the week to play on Friday," said Maciocia of the veterans.

FINISH LINES: Based on yesterday's practice, the first-string secondary appears to be CB Roosevelt Williams, HB Shannon Garrett, HB Buhl and CB Craver.
