Roster shuffling on tap

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

Eskimos head coach Danny Maciocia has a few to make this week.

It's now clear import linebacker A.J. Gass will not play Friday because of a hamstring injury, which easily allows Montford to come onto the main 42-man roster. But losing Gass means there is a hole on special teams that needs to be plugged.

Non-import fullback Deitan Dubuc moved onto the first-string punt coverage team yesterday, meaning he could be activated.

But newly acquired Canadian Mike Botterill could also find a home on special teams this week.

Even though he has just practised once with the Green and Gold, players in the Eskimos room are singing his praises.

"He's a beast," said safety Will Loftus, who played with Botterill in Montreal.

"He's a guy you want to line up with.

"Believe me, you will definitely see a few knockout blows (on the field)."

For Dubuc or Botterill to come onto the main roster, a Canadian will have to come off. That will likely become clear today.

Maciocia also hasn't decided who will start in the secondary.

SHORT HITS: Resting his right hamstring, slotback Mookie Mitchell didn't practise again yesterday, but he's still expecting to play Friday.
