Maciocia family feud?

At least one thing has already gone right for Danny Maciocia this week.

His beloved Italian soccer team has advanced to the World Cup final after beating Germany yesterday.

But while that is cause for the Eskimo coach to head to Little Italy to celebrate, there's a pending problem.

"My only concern is that if Portugal wins (today), we may have some problems at home," said Maciocia, whose wife is Portuguese.

"We may have to split up the family and split the kids - maybe whoever is rooting for Italy comes with me (to watch the game) and whoever is rooting for Portugal goes with my wife and we'll watch in two different locations.

"It could be nasty in the Maciocia household.

"This is the only thing that could practically divide us."

Soccer runs deep in Maciocia's blood.

"My dad played competitively in Italy and since an early age - on a yearly basis - he would take me to Italy so I could understand the culture," explained Maciocia, who was born in Montreal.

"It didn't take too long before I was enamoured with soccer."

And with Italy advancing to the final, Maciocia has a chance to cash another bet.

So far, he's two-for-two - taking perogies off of equipment manager Dwayne Mandrusiak with Italy's win over Ukraine and silencing CFRN-TV sports director Dave Mitchell yesterday, who can't ask another question in the coach's daily media conference for the rest of the year.
