Coach wants Oilers updates

For the first time ever, the Edmonton Oilers will play a Stanley Cup game in direct conflict with an Edmonton Eskimo regular-season game.

With the Oilers forcing Game 6 tomorrow night, the puck will drop at Rexall Place at 6 p.m., the same time the Esks and Calgary Stampeders will kick off the regular season in Calgary.

Eskimo management was hoping their game could be moved to the afternoon, but TSN has left the game at 6 p.m.

But head coach Danny Maciocia is still holding out hope he might catch glimpses of the Oil - or at least updates on the game.

"Maybe in Calgary they'll play (the hockey game) on the Jumbotron while we're playing," said the coach.

"We can call plays and then we can look at the Jumbotron and see how (the Oilers) are handling their power play."

Maciocia also has another idea.

"I have a headset on and I know that we have a monitor upstairs (in the press box)," he said.

"I am hoping it has to do with instant replay but if for some strange reason we have a remote control that we can switch the channels, maybe I can get an update from some of our coaches."

LINE OF THE DAY: After watching Fernando Pisani - a fellow Italian - score the winning goal Wednesday, Maciocia is contemplating some changes.

"I'm a firm believer that if you are going to win championships you need to have some Italians on your squad," said Maciocia.

"Now that I think of it, maybe I can convert a couple of guys (on my team) between now and then. Maybe change their last name - add a vowel."
