Analyst gives Esks a miss for '06 playoffs

The Edmonton Eskimos' 34-year run in the playoffs will come to an end this year, according to Eric Tillman.

The football analyst on Rogers' Sportsnet and CBC has picked the Eskimos to miss the post-season dance because of Jason Maas's departure, a suspect offensive line and the competitive balance in the West division.

Although Tillman isn't the John Madden of the CFL, he is highly respected around the league for having a keen eye for talent after being a general manager in the past.

"I definitely respect Eric's opinion," said Eskimo receiver Pat Woodcock, who played in Ottawa when Tillman was GM. "But obviously I think he might be a little wrong in this case."

Tillman isn't the only media member writing off the Eskimos. But the dire predictions might actually help some members of the Green and Gold.

"It is just motivation to prove everybody wrong again," said receiver Trevor Gaylor.

FINISH LINES: It appears some Eskimos will actually kickstart CBC's coverage of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final.

After practice yesterday, a CBC crew showed up at Clarke Stadium and used a handful of players to read the opening tease for tomorrow's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
