Hits and misses

THE MISSES

TONY TOMPKINS (PR): Looked good during punt-return drills and will see the bulk of time in that spot in Friday's final preseason test vs. Saskatchewan. "We're going to have our ace back there because he needs to get some game work, too," said head coach Danny Maciocia.

RICKY RAY (QB) - Very sharp day for the No. 1 QB. He was on the money on nearly every throw and looks ready for the regular season to begin.

THE MISSES

PATRICK KABONGO (OL): A roller-coaster kind of day for the big O-lineman. Did some good things, but got tongue-lashed by the coaches for a breakdown in pass protection.

KHARI JONES (QB): Back on the field after an allergic reaction, but his aim and arm were off on most of his tosses. He could be slumping out of the picture.

ESKS-CETERA

The early offensive drills focused on the running backs and none of the three big guns - Troy Davis, Ron McClendon and Dahrran Deidrick - looked like they were going to give up any ground soon ... Despite looking good on a handful of punt returns, Nicolas Bisaillon's early-camp injury woes are coming back to haunt him. Bisaillon is likely headed back to the CIS for a final year of eligibility.

HURT PARADE

Khari Jones (arm) was back, as were Tim Fleiszer (knee) and Malcolm Frank (hip), while Pat Woodcock (hamstring) did some light work. Jason Nugent (knee), Randy Spencer (calf), William Loftus (shoulder), Steven Marsh (knee), Marcus Winn (ribs), Andre Sommersell (leg) and Jason Tucker (head) all sat out.

AT CLARKE PARK TODAY: One session from 9-11 a.m.
