Shannon Garrett

Position: LB

Game grade: A-

The skinny: Trying to crack the lineup at outside linebacker, Garrett played very well. He almost picked off Marcus Crandell early in the game and was step-for-step in coverage many times. He did get called for pass interference once, but is very valuable and versatile as he proved by dropping back to halfback at times yesterday.

Rodney Williams

Position: Punter

Game grade: B-

The skinny: After booming 60-yard punts during the first week of training camp, Williams wasn't nearly as sharp yesterday and might be released before Friday's game. "I expected a whole lot more out of myself," said Williams. The import did have a 44-yard average yesterday, but he needs to be better to beat non-import Sean Fleming, who can produce similar numbers. Williams also got charged with a time-count violation.

Robert Brown

Position: DT

Game grade: A

The skinny: In a battle to make the cut, the 10-year CFL veteran might have provided the most pressure in the Rider backfield.

Roosevelt Williams

Position: DB

Game grade: B

The skinny: He would have scored a solid A if he hadn't dropped an easy interception. "Oh man, I ain't going to be able to sleep tonight," he said. Not only was he solid in coverage, he made a great block on special teams in the first quarter.

Andre Sommersell

Position: DE

Game grade: A

The skinny: The only problem is that he didn't play in the second half after hurting his right ankle on the final play of the first half. But when he did play, he nearly sacked Kerry Joseph and had great run pursuit.

Singor Mobley

Position: LB

Game grade: C

The skinny: The eight-year veteran appears to be in trouble if Marcus Winn is healthy to start the year. Mobley did nothing outstanding and was only noticed for being beat on a pass pattern in the flat by Dominique Dorsey. He was also bounced back while trying to tackle another running back in the second half.
