Pushing exercise no longer allowed

Watching offensive linemen pushing coach Bill Macdermott down the sidelines in a golf cart on the new field turf at Clarke Stadium brought a chuckle to media row yesterday - but that's the last time anybody will see that unique strength-training drill.

INTERESTING TO SOME

"I found it interesting that they were pushing him around," said Eskimos head coach Danny Maciocia.

"I know probably a few people around here didn't find it as interesting because we are clearly concerned about our (field) surface here."

The drill called for two offensive linemen to push Coach Mac in the cart for about 10 yards before giving way to another pair of linemen.

In the end, the cart slowly moved about 50 yards over the brand new $2-million field turf, which isn't designed for that kind of activity.

"We are going to have to try to find a different piece of equipment so we can condition the offensive line instead of just pushing a cart," said Maciocia.

O-LINE LOOKS GOOD

But the coach did take time to praise Macdermott.

"I am happy with our O-line," Maciocia said. "Overall, I think Coach Mac has done an outstanding job with our offensive line."
