Don't believe everything you read on an NFL player card.
According to his Indianapolis Colts' card, Andre Sommersell was born in Fountain Valley, Calif.
But nothing could be further from the truth.
Sommersell's remarkable journey to Edmonton actually started in Guyana, a country in South America where he was born and raised.
"I had friends and that's it," recalled Sommersell.
"We made our own toys. We had no TVs."
He also had to live without his mother - the only parent he knew - for eight years.
An American citizen, she left Guyana when he was four to try to get visa papers to bring her son to the U.S.
Left in the care of a great aunt, Sommersell didn't see his mom again until he arrived on American soil when he was 12.
"Compared to a lot of other kids I saw a lot," he said.
