On Guard

The battle at right guard just became a little more interesting with the arrival of import Matt Miller.

After leaving a New Orleans Saints mini-camp last week, the 25-year-old Louisiana native practised for the first time yesterday.

"He caught my eye on one particular play," said head coach Danny Maciocia. "He came out of his stance and was all over the linebackers.

"That is encouraging, but now the question is: Can he process all of (the information we have given him), take the field (in a preseason game) and let his ability take over?"

Although he has also spent time in NFL camps in Kansas City and Seattle, Miller is third on the Eskimo depth chart.

At the moment, the Esks' first-string O-line unit is all-Canadian, with Glen Carson at right guard.

Import Raleigh Roundtree, who has been in camp since last weekend, is also battling for the spot.
