Hits and Misses

THE HITS

KELLY WILTSHIRE (FS): Showed he can do multi-task damage by zipping through the offensive line to register a no-hit sack and then made a beauty of an interception by stepping in front of Troy Davis.

RON MCCLENDON (RB): Plenty of spring in his step out of the backfield and during special teams drills. Looked especially good ripping into open space during scrimmage action.

AND MISSES

JARRED WINKEL (RB): The former U of A Golden Bears star is in a fight for a job. He didn't gain any ground on the incumbents when he dropped a short toss from Steven Jyles.

THE SECOND O-LINE UNIT: It's the area of most change for the Eskimos and while the expected starters were solid, those angling for spots didn't look sharp. On two consecutive plays, the defence went virtually untouched into the backfield.

NOTES

Danny Maciocia let his troops have it on several occasions during practice yesterday. His message was "Stay on your feet."

"We don't practise with full pads but we want to make (sure) that when we enter contact we should stay on our feet,"said the head coach. "That'll mean we know how to practise. There were three or four (players) dragging people down and that tells me that a couple still don't know how to practise."

AT CLARKE PARK TODAY: First practice - 7:50-9:30 a.m.; Second practice - 9:50-11:35 a.m.
